Student Support Programme (SSP) – helping learners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to attain excellence

The Thebe Group has supported the SSP since 2009. This innovative programme offers grade 8 to 12 students with a flair for mathematics, science and English an opportunity to get the best education possible at selected partner schools. The programme selects learners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds that average 65% in these core subjects from 2,200 feeder schools in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape. It currently has 300 learners in the scholarship programme, 100 learners in its Bridging Course, and 271 alumni. The scholarship programme covers tuition, stationery and uniforms. SSP also offers mentorship opportunities to scholarship students and a Leadership Programme to prepare these students for the future.

The Thebe Foundation currently funds five high school scholarships through the SSP to learners at St. Martins High, Jeppe Girls High, St. David’s Marist, and Pretoria Girls High. Thebe Stockbroking, one of the Thebe Group companies, has also recently joined the SSP and supports scholarships for two pupils at St. David’s and King Edward School (KES).
